‘The decline is insanely scary’ – Man City fans deeply concerned by player once tipped to be the ‘next Messi’

Man City supporters were frustrated by Oscar Bobb’s poor performance in their 2-0 startling defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on 25 November.

Pep Guardiola’s mass Man City rotation came under scrutiny after a bizarre home loss on the European stage to a misfiring Leverkusen side.

Conversely, Savinho was amongst Man City’s underwhelming performers on the night, as many fans regretted not offloading the winger to Tottenham during the summer.

Also one of the strugglers at the Etihad, the Cityzens faithful were quick to point out Bobb‘s fall from grace as he was well below-par in the Champions League.

Bobb has been used to criticism when playing for Norway, given the high expectations for the young winger.

The City academy graduate has struggled with injuries in the past year, but now fully back from his woes, he clearly isn’t firing at 100 per cent.

Conversely, the 22-year-old will now be facing more backlash from his club manager and the supporters following an uninspiring match against Leverkusen.

The number 52 was creatively at the races, delivering two key passes and creating one big chance.

However, his heat map, courtesy of Football Insider’s data partnership with Opta, highlighted his timidness when running with the ball.

The Norway international tended to stay outside of the 18-yard box, unwilling to make daring runs at the defence to make something happen for his side.

Man City fans noticed his reluctance to carry the ball with intent and were concerned by his overall performance, as he was hooked at half-time for Jeremy Doku.

One supporter said: “This is not the Oscar Bobb we highly anticipated [upon] his return [from injury]. This decline is insanely scary.” with another adding: “I thought Oscar Bobb was the next [Lionel] Messi? What happened?”
