Thiago Alcantara and Liverpool teammate should be banned as controversy analysed – pundit
Liverpool midfielders Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho should have been sent off against Man City on Sunday, according to Kevin Campbell.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker was glad neither were as it would have “spoiled the game as a spectacle”.
Fabinho was booked by referee Anthony Taylor after a high tackle on Bernardo Silva and VAR official Paul Tierney did not adjudge there to have been a clear and obvious error.
Thiago could have easily seen two yellows in the match after a number of fouls in the second half.
The decision would prove pivotal with Jurgen Klopp’s side leaving the Etihad with a point.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if the pair were lucky, Campbell said: “Both of them should have been sent off.
“They were both lucky to stay on the field, let’s be honest.
“But for me, I think the referee did well. It was a high pressure game. I thought Taylor did really well.
“Could they have been sent off? Yes. But I don’t want players sent off because as a spectator it spoils it.
“It was a great game. The two powerhouses of the Premier League going at it.

“Man City would have been disappointed not to get the victory but Liverpool kept fighting. They have a knack of getting themselves back into games. They stepped it up in the second half. City will be kicking themselves because it should have been over in the first half.
“I don’t like players getting sent off. If Fabinho or Thiago had been sent off it would have ruined the game.”
