This loaned out Aston Villa ace should be the first name on the team sheet next season

Carles Gil is currently plying his trade in the Spanish top tier for struggling La Liga outfit Deportivo de La Coruña – a situation which would be familiar for the loaned out Aston Villa ace.

Playmaker Gil was loaned out by Villa last summer following their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship last season.

Following a move to his home country, it is a sense of déjà vu for the Spaniard because he is not playing regular football for a struggling top tier side – just like the previous campaign.

Deportivo are two points above the relegation zone in the Spanish top flight and since Gil’s move to Galicia, he has played only 11 matches, starting eight of those games.

In the summer when he returns to the Midlands, Villa will still be a Championship side, but manager Steve Bruce must ensure that the loaned out star is the first name on the team sheet.

Gil’s technical ability on the ball, vision to pick out a pass and ability to create space for his teammates is what Villa are currently missing.

He would complement the combative Mile Jedinak, set piece specialist Conor Hourihane and the all-round play of Henri Lansbury in the middle of the park.

Whether Gil is playing on the right or preferably in behind the front man, the strike duo of Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan, in particular, the latter would absolutely love his service.

During his time at Villa Park, Gil was not given the regular game time a player of his ability deserved.

This is mainly down to the fact that the manager that brought him to Villa in January 2015, was sacked less than a month later into him joining the club.

Now, if Bruce wants to shape his team for a promotion challenge next season, Gil should be the first name on the team sheet.
