This popular Aston Villa duo are hugely overrated and need a reality check
COMMENT by Amir Mir
Aston Villa are falling at a rapid pace and if the players and management staff don’t get their act together then things could turn ugly.
Seven points off the relegation zone in the Championship, over six months after Villa’s main priority was to earn instant promotion back to the Premier League, is a hard pill to swallow for supporters.
Steve Bruce’s side produced one of their worst performances in recent seasons when they were beaten 3-1 at home to Barnsley on Tuesday night.
Amongst the mistake-ridden display, two popular Villa players in Jonathan Kodjia and Jack Grealish bore the brunt of the fans furore at their appalling performances.
There is absolutely no doubt that Kodjia is the most greedy player in the Villa team and his actions are now beginning to cost his side dearly.
He may be the club’s top scorer with 11 goals, but the Ivory Coast international needs to learn to pass the ball and improve his decision-making because he is becoming a liability to the team.
On the other hand, academy product Grealish received ironic cheers from the home support when substituted off during the second half against the Tykes.
Many of those same fans felt that he is of Premier League quality, just like Kodjia, and he can produce the 2015 FA Cup semi-final game near upon every match.
Well in truth, both need a reality check because they are hugely overrated and they need to get their act together during the closing stages of this campaign.
Grealish needs to work harder off the ball and instead of being a fancy dan, he should actually put his body on the line and produce the goods when his team needs it.
As for, Kodjia, after a brilliant start to his career at Villa Park, his selfish runs and failure to link up with teammates is beginning to become a problematic issue in his game – either stamp it out or sit on the bench.
In other Aston Villa news, supporters have destroyed the woeful display of this 22-year-old during the defeat against Barnsley.
