This should be Aubameyang’s next move after Arsenal decision today – pundit

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will be “cut loose” if he cannot accept Mikel Arteta’s stance on his “disciplinary problems”, according to Noel Whelan.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 32-year-old is no longer an undroppable “big star” for the Gunners.

Arsenal revealed via their club website today (14 December) that Aubameyang has been stripped of the Gunners’ captaincy and will remain unavailable for the West Ham game tomorrow.

That news follows his omission from the side which beat Southampton 3-0 on Saturday (11 December) following a “discipline breach”.

Aubameyang’s last Arsenal goal came at the end of October against Aston Villa.

Whelan claimed the conflict between manager and player “doesn’t look like it’s going to be resolved”.

“He’s just not having the impact that he had for Arsenal when he first joined,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“His stats are really showing that right now.

“There also seems to be some kind of indifference between him and Arteta – which doesn’t look like it’s going to be resolved.

“He’s had the disciplinary problems, but even before that he was benched – he’s definitely not that big star who can’t be dropped anymore.

“Arteta has stamped his authority. If he cannot accept it and turn it around – he will be left out and sold.

That will go for any player at Arsenal. That’s a good stance, for me. You have to work hard for each other – or you’ll have to cut players loose.”

Arsenal sit sixth in the Premier League after 16 games.

Aubameyang is out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 season.
