Thomas Frank to ‘block Mathys Tel leaving Tottenham’ after new offer
Thomas Frank will make the final decision about whether Mathys Tel is allowed to leave Tottenham this month given their lack of depth up front.
Former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the 20-year-old may be keen to leave but could find his pathway blocked by the manager.
Tel has started just seven of his 19 appearances under Frank, and is keen to play more regular football, but Spurs’ inconsistencies up front mean he is still needed.
Richarlison is not trusted to lead the line regularly, while Dominic Solanke‘s injury issues have led to lingering doubts about whether he can be relied upon.
Interest in Tel from Roma and other European giants could force Tottenham into a decision, but Frank is reluctant to lose players and is likely to turn down any new offer.

Mathys Tel could leave Tottenham in January
Brown told Football Insider in November that Tottenham are reluctant to let Tel leave and have been impressed by his performances from the bench.
However, his inability to establish himself as a first-team regular is seen as a concern while the boss is not completely happy with his form, making it a tough decision.
“Tel arrived at Tottenham under a bit of a cloud,” Brown told Football Insider.
“There were question marks about why Bayern Munich were so keen to let him go, and now he doesn’t seem to be able to get in the Tottenham side.
“But he’s an explosive player, he’s quick and he brings a lot of attacking drive which they don’t get too much of from their other players.
“They’ve had injuries and players not performing to the highest level, so the opportunity should be there for Tel to make his mark.
“It is a concern, the fact he hasn’t been able to nail down a starting place, and that makes you think maybe if they get a new offer they could let him go.
“But the type of player he is and the other options they have, I don’t think the manager is going to be keen to lose that from his squad.
“He will make the final decision, it’s not about what the player might want or who might be interested, does Frank see him as a part of his plans?
“I think he does and I would expect him to stay at Tottenham because of what I’ve said about him giving them something they don’t get from their other players.”
Thomas Frank sack update emerges at Spurs
Brown warned Football Insider on 12 January that Frank will be sacked by Tottenham if results to not take an immediate turn for the better.
The former scout warned that Spurs’ star players don’t appear to be performing for the manager, and are doing little to ease the pressure on his position.
A number of star players have turned in inconsistent performances amid fears they have not bought in to the new style of play under Frank.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 10 January that Frank needs results against Villa and West Ham, who they play next in the league, to ease pressure on his position.
Tottenham lost 2-1 to Aston Villa last time out and were eliminated from the FA Cup in the third round, while their dismal league form has compounded the frustrations.
