Ever present among three Newcastle stars who must be axed ahead of Liverpool clash

Ciaran Clark

An ever present in the Premier League this season, it is about time the former Aston Villa man missed his first minutes of action.

He started the campaign as brightly as he was performing in the Championship, with a series of commanding displays alongside Jamaal Lascelles.

He even managed to find his way onto the score sheet, heading home in the 3-0 victory over West Ham.

However, his display against Brighton was one of the most disappointing, with his usual calm disposition replaced by uncertainty and a lack of composure.

He was a liability at the back, giving away possession in dangerous areas with his poor passing, and should have dealt with the ball prior to Brighton’s goal.

With Florian Lejeune set to return from an injury layoff, it is the French defender, not Clark, who should start against Liverpool.

The Reds are known for their electrifying attack, and the pace they possess would tear Clark to shreds, with Lejeune having shown he can cope with speed.
