Former Bordeaux midfielder Saviet spent the entire 2016-17 season on loan with Europa League outfit St. Etienne, where he impressed in the middle of the park.
However, it remains to be seen in what capacity Benitez will want to use the 26-year-old, after bringing Mikel Merino in from Borussia Dortmund on a season-long loan.
With Colback already reportedly ousted, Saivet could also find himself on the scrapheap.
