David Bates
Bates is never going to be a superstar and fans were more than a bit perplexed when the defender arrived from Raith Rovers – ostensibly as a replacement for Ross McCrorie.
After spending much of last season in the Under-20’s, Bates was thrown into the side towards the end of last term after injuries decimated the Gers squad.
Bates continued on the fringes of the first-team before coming back into the side in December and barely putting a foot wrong.
His passing might be woeful at times but there’s little gets by the big defender and fans have been won over by the 21-year-old’s committed performances in a blue jersey.
