This starter under pressure: Three things we learned from Newcastle United win over Stoke

Joselu is back under pressure

This match was summer arrival Joselu’s chance to prove his former side wrong, but it could not have gone much worse for the 27-year-old.

The Spanish forward missed no less than three glorious opportunities, each where it looked easier to hit the back of the net than to miss, while he struggled to fashion any other half-chances of his own.

Whether it was the pressure of coming up against his former team mates, or whether he had simply misplaced his shooting boots, we will never know.

He has put in a good shift in all his performances, and has managed to get off the mark with a goal against West Ham in the club’s 3-0 win.

However, such a poor performance means that the pressure will be building once again, with the former Stoke man having failed to find the back of the net in two matches now.

While it would be harsh to see Benitez drop the striker to the bench for their clash with Brighton next Sunday, with last season’s top scorer Dwight Gayle on the bench, it is going to be a tough call for the boss.
