One man surprise absentee: Three things you might have missed from Rangers v Ayr

Alnwick didn’t even make the bench

Rangers
After regularly being handed the gloves in cup ties since arriving at Ibrox 12 months ago, Jak Alnwick didn’t even make the bench for the clash with Ayr as Liam Kelly sat on the bench as back-up keeper.
It’s unclear if the goalkeeper has picked up an injury which kept him out of the game but his absence came as a surprise to fans after becoming accustomed to the change in cup ties.
Alnwick is unlikely to displace Wes Foderingham as number one any time soon so cup ties are his only real chance of first-team action – barring injury to Foderingham.
Whatever the reason for Alnwick’s absence, it will be interesting to see if Murty re-thinks his decision to rotate in cup games in the future.
