‘Thrive in that environment’ – Former manager tips potential Celtic signing to be huge success
Former St Mirren manager Danny Lennon believes John McGinn would be a huge success at Celtic should he join the Hoops next season.
The 23-year-old Hibernian midfielder has been linked with a move to the Hoops, with the Scottish Sun reporting that he is on a shortlist of potential signings.
Lennon, who gave McGinn his first start in football as an 18-years-old, believes that McGinn would ‘thrive’ in the environment Brendan Rodgers has created at the Scottish champions.
“Knowing John, he would also thrive in that environment with so many good players” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“The potential is there for McGinn to be whatever he wants to be in the game.”
McGinn has one year left on his contract at Easter Road, which could tempt the Hibernain board into selling the player.
Football Insider verdict
Those are certainly very encouraging comments for Hoops fans should McGinn join the club. Danny Lennon saw that he could become a player at 18-years-old, so it is no surprise that he feel that he could make a name for himself in the East End of Glasgow. The McGinn scenario will now become a waiting game, as Brendan Rodgers and the rest of the Hoops board will have to soon decide if he is worth bidding on. With the Champions League qualifiers only six weeks away, a decision will have to be taken sooner rather than later. Lennon seems certain that McGinn could be a huge success in Glasgow, and he should know, having managed him at St Mirren for so many years. The player would have to up his game from the levels he has displayed in the game so far if he wants to be a first-team regular at Parkhead, but Lennon seems confident that he would be able to achieve this.
