Toby Alderweireld takes to Twitter to voice verdict after Tottenham win v Chelsea

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has congratulated his teammates following their 3-1 victory against Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

Goals from Christian Eriksen and a Dele Alli brace were enough to give Spurs all three points on an afternoon where they ended a hoodoo of a winless run at Stamford Bridge lasting more than 20 years.

The Belgian contract-rebel was cut from the squad completely by manager Mauricio Pochettino in a decision that set tongues wagging about the player’s future at the club, which was already in doubt pre-match and now appears to be less certain.

But that didn’t stop the Belgium international from offering his well-wishes and took to Twitter to say: “Terrific win today! What a brilliant strike from ChrisEriksen8! Congrats dele_official with your (two goals)”

Football Insider verdict:

Despite all the talk surrounding Alderweireld’s future at the club, he has always appeared to be supportive of his teammates and shown a willingness to play for the club after his return from injury. As open as he is with his congratulations, his silence over the contract situation is deafening. Spurs are seemingly unwilling to meet the Belgian’s wage demands so it would seem that it is only a matter of time before the defender is sold in the summer. Mauricio Pochettino has a similar situation last season with Kyle Walker, who when it became apparent that he wanted to leave, was shut out of the side. It looks like a case of deja vu in north London.
