Tony Xia delivers Twitter update on future of Aston Villa ace after reported Everton approach

Tony Xia fully expects Jordan Amavi to be a part of the Aston Villa side for many years to come despite interest in the left-back.

The 22-year-old defender is reportedly interesting a handful of top flight clubs but chairman Xia quashed those rumours.

Xia was adamant on his personal Twitter account that Amavi “will grow to be a great star with Villa” despite a potential January move for the French full-back.

Last week, French publication La Provence claimed that Everton had made an official approach for the former Nice defender.

The Toffees reported enquiry came after the print edition of L’Equipe had claimed that Amavi’s representatives were involved in multiple talks with Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

Amavi was one of many signings from France made by former boss Tim Sherwood during the summer of 2015, along with the likes of Jordan Veretout, Jordan Ayew and Idrissa Gueye.

However, the France Under-21’s international ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament last term and managed just 12 appearances, as Villa were relegated into the Championship with just 17 top-flight points.

This season, Amavi has remained injury free as his performances begin to catch the eye of both Everton and Marseille.

With four years still remaining on his Villa Park contract, the Midlands giants could price interested clubs out of a move for their first-choice left-back.
