Top-flight manager: I have made an approach for Rangers 26-year-old

By Derek Smithson

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has explained that his side have approached Rangers for their attacker Michael O’Halloran.

The 26-year-old is believed to be one of 14 players that could leave Ibrox this summer as manager Pedro Caixinha conducts a huge overhaul of his squad.

He only completed a move to the Gers in January 2016 under the management of Mark Warburton and his former club St Johnstone are now interested in re-signing him.

Wright has revealed that he has made contract about the availability of O’Halloran and says he is waiting for Rangers to make a decision on his future.

“Michael is one player that we’ve enquired about but in that position there’s two or three other enquiries we’ve got in at the minute,” Wright told STV News. “Michael’s situation is one that’s very much in Rangers’ hands. It’s not in any other club’s hands, it’s up to what Rangers want to do with him.

“I was sad to see him go and, as I say, we have spoken to Rangers about him, about the possibility but that’s outwith my control. At the minute the ball’s in Rangers’ court.”

O’Halloran has struggled to make an impact since he moved to the Scottish giants and the right winger has been unable to cement his position in the starting XI.

The pacy wide man moved to Ibrox with big expectancy, but has lacked a clinical tough in front of goal and fallen down the pecking order.

He made 24 appearances across all competitions last season and failed to score a single goal.

Caixinha has already recruited eight new players in the summer window and O’Halloran is likely to struggle to obtain a matchday role if he remains.

In other Rangers transfer news, they have been installed the favourites to land a four-time Premier League winner.
