Tottenham backed to agree Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg deal after source’s talks reveal – expert

Alan Hutton insisted Tottenham need to hold on to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for the next few years.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender said Hjobjerg is an important part of Antonio Conte’s midfield.

On 12 November, sources told this site that the Lilywhites are opening talks with the 27-year-old’s representatives over a new deal.

The Denmark international’s current contract runs until June 2025 but the club are keen to reward the midfielder with a new deal that is set to include a pay hike.

Hojbjerg has only missed five of Conte’s 57 games in charge of Spurs and is seen as an integral part of the Italian’s squad.

Hutton insisted Tottenham need to keep hold of him.

He is that warrior type in midfield,” he told Football Insider.

He is a battler, he loves tackling and getting everybody geared up for the game and you need those types of players. I just think at this moment in time the blend in midfield is not quite right.

You look at [Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Yves] Bissouma, [Oliver] Skipp, kind of similar, all defensively minded. So I think they need to play alongside somebody that is a little bit more creative.

For the next few years he is the guy that is going to be in there and be the winner of the ball and I think he is an important part of that team.
