Tottenham backed to appoint Thomas Tuchel after source’s update – Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Tottenham should appoint Thomas Tuchel rather than bring Mauricio Pochettino back to the club.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the former Chelsea boss would bring “fresh ideas” – and accused Spurs fans of forgetting the reasons for Pochettino’s departure in 2019.

Sources told this site on Saturday (11 March) that Tottenham are expected to mutually agree to part ways with Conte this summer as his loveless reign comes to an end.

Tottenham

Spurs are now drawing up a list of possible replacements – with ex-boss Pochettino, Luis Enrique, and ex-Chelsea manager Tuchel all potential candidates.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (10 March) that Tuchel won’t consider taking the Lilywhites hot seat manager they achieve Champions League qualification this season.

Spurs are locked in a three-way battle with Liverpool and Newcastle for fourth spot this term.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Don’t forget that the fans wanted Pochettino out when he left.

“It went stale.

“All of a sudden they want him back. He got them playing good football, he got them to a final – but he didn’t win anything.

“Why would you want to bring him back? It doesn’t make sense.

“What if he has a bad few months to start? Are you going to call for his head straight away because you see the same problems?

“I’d look at Thomas Tuchel. He came into Chelsea and dragged them to a Champions League final – then won it.

“He’d bring fresh ideas and a clean slate. Whether he would be interested, I don’t know.”

Chelsea

Tuchel won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2020.

His other honours include lifting two league titles with Paris Saint-Germain and winning the DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
