Tottenham backed to rocket past Chelsea after James Maddison news – pundit
Tottenham could all but secure third place in the 2022-23 Premier League with the signing of James Maddison.
That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ transfer business.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for Maddison, 25, this summer.

Newcastle have been pushing hardest to sign the attacking midfielder this summer, seeing bids of £40million and £50million rejected.
Sources have told Football Insider (1 August) that the Foxes value Maddison, whose current deal runs until the summer of 2024, at £60million.
Kenny claims the arrival of Maddison would help Spurs secure third spot in the Premier League.
“It would be the icing on the cake for Tottenham,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It would show their intent this season, to get someone of that quality. On top of what they have already got, it would be a massive signing for them.
“He is an excellent player and he does nothing more than strengthen Tottenham. He would help to push them into that third spot, above Chelsea.
“It’s progression. Players like that are always great signings. He fits in with what Spurs are trying to do.”

Maddison started for Leicester in Sunday’s (7 August) game against Brentford.
Tottenham won their first game of the season 4-1 against Southampton on Saturday (6 August) with Eric Dier, Ryan Sessegnon and Dejan Kulusevski all getting on the scoresheet.
In other news, Gabriel Agbonlahor has suggested Djed Spence may leave Tottenham soon after major new development.
