Tottenham backed to seal deal for ‘brilliant’ Alessandro Bastoni alternative after Sky update – Robinson
Paul Robinson “would be disappointed” if Tottenham fail to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan this summer.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one said Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet would be a “top-level” alternative to the 23-year-old.
As revealed by this site (30 June), Spurs have reached an agreement with Barcelona for the loan signing of Lenglet, 27.

On Friday (1 July), Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridges suggested the transfer was close to completion when he tweeted the centre-half had “jumped the final fence.”
Lenglet has four years remaining on his contract at the Nou Camp.
Robinson believes the France international could prove to be another shrewd signing.
“It would be disappointing if they can’t get Bastoni this year because he is a top-quality player who knows how to play that left-sided centre-half role,” he told Football Insider.
“That is what [Antonio] Conte needs. That is what he is looking for.
“If Spurs can get Lenglet on loan it solves a problem. Everyone is aware of Barcelona’s financial situation. If he does well there will be an opportunity to sign him.
“He is a very good player even though he hasn’t been playing week in, week out. He is a top-level centre-half.

“You have to trust [Fabio] Paratici and Conte. When you look at the signings they have brought in, [Rodrigo] Bentancur and [Dejan] Kulusevski, they weren’t regular starters at their previous clubs. But they have been brilliant for Spurs.
“Lenglet could prove to be another brilliant signing.”
