Tottenham backed to sign ‘phenomenal’ Ings this summer amid Sky latest – Robinson
Paul Robinson has claimed Danny Ings would be a “great signing” for Tottenham this summer amid Harry Kane’s potential exit.
However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one fears the 28-year-old would only move to north London if Kane was granted his wish to leave.
Sky Sports revealed on Monday night that Harry Kane wants to leave Spurs before the Euros with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all interested in his signature.
The England captain’s exit would leave Tottenham with the near impossible task of finding a replacement for a striker who is top of the goals and assists chart in the Premier League.
The Sunday Mirror (16/5; page 73) claim Spurs, Everton, West Ham and Manchester City are all interested in signing Danny Ings in the next transfer window.
The England international, who has scored 12 goals in 27 league appearances this term, has little over a year left on his contract at St. Mary’s.
Robinson claimed this summer is the “perfect opportunity” for Ings to leave Southampton given his age and contract situation.
“I think Ings would be a great signing for any team this summer,” he told Football Insider.
“He had a phenomenal start to the season but he has had his injury problems.
“If he wants to play at the next level, this is the perfect opportunity.
“The big question would be Harry Kane. Would he come to Spurs if Kane is still there? If he does he will not play very often.
“If Harry Kane leaves though he could be a replacement. Is he as good as Kane? No he isn’t. Kane is Spurs’ talisman.”
