Tottenham could be signing Alessandro Bastoni amid ‘big’ claim – expert

Tottenham could still sign Alessandro Bastoni despite his recent comments about his failed move to N17.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

According to The Sun (9 November), Tottenham remain keen on signing Bastoni, who they chased in the summer of 2022.

In quotes relayed by Fabrizo Romano on Friday (9 December), the Inter Milan defender admitted there was contact with Spurs but he is happy with his decision to remain in Italy.

Wenham insists these quotes change nothing in terms of Spurs’ interest in the 23-year-old.

“He’s an Inter Milan boy, isn’t he? He supports them,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“A lot of Italian players, though this has changed a bit now, prefer to stay in Italy, closer to home. Bastoni clearly has a big connection to the club.

“We were in the market for a top left-sided centre-half in the summer and Inter Milan have three of them. We already know about Conte’s links with Inter.

“There has been talk about moves for Skriniar and De Vrij. We must be looking at that Inter team very closely.

“They are both top-quality players who have more experience than Bastoni at this point but obviously Bastoni has the potential.

“We will have to see what happens but I don’t see how these quotes would change anything.”

Tottenham instead signed Clement Lenglet in the summer and he has made 14 total appearances for Spurs.

He started his new side’s last four league games before the World Cup break.
