Tottenham deliver key injury updates, defender set to return for Liverpool game
By Danny Wright
Tottenham have given an update on the injuries to Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier, Erik Lamela and Jan Vertonghen.
The club confirmed on their official Twitter account that Rose has seen a specialist over his knee injury which he picked up in last week’s 0-0 draw with Sunderland, and that they are happy for him to build his fitness as he looks to return to first-team action.
One bit of good news is that Tripper should be fit enough to make the squad for the game against Liverpool on Saturday, which will boost a beleaguered defence.
Tottenham added that Jan Vertonghen will return to training with the squad next week and that Erik Lamela is taking his recovery from a hip injury ‘step by step’ having been side-lined since October.
“The good thing is the injured players are all very positive, that’s important,” the club said.
Lamela returned to his former club AS Roma in January as he looked to heal from his injury which occurred in a training session.
Tottenham are currently in a good run of form in the Premier League, but will need to have all their players up to full fitness as soon as possible as the business end of the season quickly approaches.
Maurcio Pochettino’s men face a congested month of fixtures in February as they play five games in 15 day, with a trip to Belgium to face KAA Gent in the Europa League round of 32 next Thursday adding further strain to a tired and depleted squad.
