Tottenham expert can’t believe Conor Gallagher move latest – ‘it’s a big plus’
Alan Hutton can’t believe Chelsea could allow “standout player” Conor Gallagher to join London rivals Tottenham this summer.
The former Tottenham and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted a deal for the 24-year-old would make Spurs “a lot stronger”.
Football Insider revealed earlier this month (2 February) that Ange Postecoglou’s side will step up their efforts to sign Chelsea star Gallagher in the summer.
The England international will have just 12 months remaining on his deal in June and is yet to agree new terms at Stamford Bridge – with new reports claiming the club are reluctant to hand him a bumper renewal.
According to FBRef, the midfielder currently earns £50,000-a-week at Chelsea.
Hutton can’t believe Tottenham could sign Gallagher – ‘Pochettino speaks so highly of him’
He has captained Mauricio Pochettino’s side regularly this season and scored a game-winning brace against Crystal Palace on Monday (12 February).
Tottenham are long-term admirers of Gallagher and moved to sign him last summer (2023).
Hutton told Football Insider: “I don’t think they should sell him to a rival in Tottenham – if I’m being honest.
“He’s been one of the standout players, he’s been captain at times as well – that tells you everything you need to know.
“Pochettino speaks so highly of him in terms of his work rate, his training and how he looks after himself.

“To let someone like that go to a rival, I just can’t see it.
“But he would make that Tottenham team and squad a lot stronger. It would be a huge plus for Spurs.”
