Tottenham expert can’t believe what Alexander Isak did to Micky van de Ven
Newcastle United’s frontline were “perfect” in their 4-0 thrashing of Tottenham on Saturday (13 April).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Spurs and Rangers defender Alan Hutton was blown away by the Magpies’ attack and hailed them for exceptionally exploiting Ange Postecoglou’s defence.
Eddie Howe’s men breezed past the Champions League qualification-chasing Lilywhites with a brace from Alexander Isak and goals from Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar which moved them up to sixth in the Premier League table.
Newcastle put in one of their most impressive displays of the season against the London giants and, despite earning only 27 per cent possession, managed 18 shots to Spurs’ 11.
Newcastle United were ‘perfect’ in their win against Tottenham
Hutton singled out Isak’s “dangerous” display and was adamant that Howe’s tactics were “spot-on” against Tottenham.
“They came up with a game plan and they weren’t shy going forward quickly,” he told Football Insider.
“They managed to get Micky van de Ven one-v-one against Isak, which was very dangerous.
“I know van de Ven is quick, but, seriously, Isak is really dangerous.
“Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes on the other side have loads of pace too and I just thought that Newcastle exploited the space really well.
“They knew how Tottenham were going to play with their full-backs but Newcastle were aggressive – they didn’t give them a chance to breathe.
“From Newcastle’s point of view, it was absolutely spot-on – perfect.
“Four goals, clean sheet and they keep rolling on with confidence.

“I felt sorry for van de Ven because he had to try and do it all on his own.
“Newcastle went straight for it.”
