Tottenham expert fumes at Harry Kane as change demanded before next season – ‘this has to stop’

Harry Kane must be taken off free-kick duty at Tottenham ahead of the 2022-23 season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Kane, 28, has only scored one direct free-kick during his time as a Tottenham player.

This came against Aston Villa on 2 November 2014.

During this time, Heung-Min Son has scored several free-kicks for his national side with the latest coming in the last minute of his side’s 2-2 draw with Paraguay on 10 June.

Wenham insists Son should be given a prolonged opportunity to take direct free-kicks at club level.

“This has to stop now,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Kane is my favourite player of all time, I always say it but the free-kick thing has to stop.

“I appreciate he might be really good at them in training but it just doesn’t happen for him in matches.

“He’s scored one free-kick for us, the late one against Villa all those years ago. One free-kick ever is just not acceptable from loads of opportunities.

“Sonny seems to be banging them in. When he took one during the 2021-22 season, it went in.

“So I would like Son to be given a prolonged opportunity, not one or two games then he is off them if he doesn’t score.

“Give him 20 or 25 opportunities and I think he would score a couple based on what I have seen from him.”
