Tottenham expert ‘gutted’ by what he’s seen from Djed Spence

Djed Spence’s cameo was the only positive for Tottenham to take from their recent loss to Nottingham Forest.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham crashed out of the Carabao Cup on 9 November, losing 2-0 to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

Before the cup game, Spence, 22, had only played one minute of senior football this season, a cameo against former side Nottingham Forest in the league on 8 August.

Wenham remains frustrated with the defender’s lack of game time.

“The only positive to come out of that night was Djed Spence’s 20-minute cameo,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He instantly looked better in that 20 minutes than any of our other right-backs at any point this season.

“There was a moment where he picked it up and ran past four players at once. He showed great speed and movement to do that.

“I remember thinking at the time that we do not have other players who are capable of doing that on their best day.

“I’m still gutted he didn’t start that one. It would have been nice to see him get 90 minutes but for whatever reason, he isn’t starting games.

“It is so frustrating because there was so much hype around him in the summer and we just haven’t really seen him yet.”

Emerson Royal has been Spurs’ regular right-back this season.

Matt Doherty has also deputised on occasion.
