Tottenham expert is fuming after confirmed Richarlison news

Richarlison won’t be bothered about missing the first Tottenham game of the season.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As revealed by the Daily Mail‘s Sami Mokbel (5 July), new Spurs man Richarlison has been handed a one-match ban for his infamous flare-throwing incident at Goodison Park last season.

The Brazil striker picked up a lit flare and threw it back into the stands when celebrating a goal against Chelsea at Goodison Park on 1 May.

The ban means he will be unable to make his Spurs debut on the first day of the 2022-23 Premier League season in his new side’s clash against Southampton.

However, Wenham is backing the Brazil star to make an impact in Spurs’ second game of the season, away at Stamford Bridge.

“Rules are rules, you can’t escape the ban just because you move clubs,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It is what it is. It’s not the end of the world, for me. I have seen some people really annoyed by this but I don’t see what else could have happened.

“He was always going to be punished whether he was playing for Everton or for Tottenham.

“It does mean he can make his Tottenham debut at Stamford Bridge.

“No doubt he will be looking to get a debut goal in a derby game against a team we will be looking to finish ahead of next season.”

Richarlison scored 10 goals in 30 Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.

Those strikes took his total haul for Everton to 53 goals in 152 games.
