Tottenham expert issues ‘£20m’ Joe Rodon claim after what he’s heard from Rennes fans
Rennes will not take up the option to sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon on a permanent basis after a poor start to life at the club.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Rodon’s move to Stade Rennais was confirmed on 1 August and it is understood that the club, who will play Europa League football this term, will have the option to make the switch permanent for a fee of £18million.
The 24-year-old has started three of Rennes’ four Ligue 1 games this season and is yet to register a win while playing for the club.
The French side registered their only win of the season in the one game in which Rodon did not take part.
Wenham has been reading what Rennes fans have made of their new defender and admitted it seems like the move will turn out to be a “disaster”.
“I had a little chuckle to myself the other day after translating a few tweets from Rennes fans,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“They reckon Tottenham have finally got their own back for Rennes qualifying ahead of them in the Europa Conference League last season.
“It’s been a disaster. You can forget about that £20million buy option already, that has gone completely.
“It does not sound like it’s going very well for him but I will be keeping tabs as the season goes on.”

Rodon only made three Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season.
Two of those came in the final three games of the season but he only accrued nine minutes of action in those outings.
