Tottenham expert issues Cristian Romero ‘assualt’ verdict after footage emerges
Tottenham fans should not be concerned by Cristian Romero’s aggressive style of football getting away with a heavy challenge on Oriol Romeu.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Romero, 24, started as Tottenham beat Southampton 4-1 on Saturday (6 August).
In the final moments of the game, the Spurs man committed a heavy tackle on Oriol Romeu for which he avoided punishment.
This was another example of the aggressive way Romero plays the game.
Wenham has no issues with Romero’s approach and even defended his aggression after spotting an “assault” on Eric Dier.
“It was trademark Romero, he probably hadn’t touched the ball for a couple of minutes so he decided to take out the ex-Chelsea man Romeu,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“There was another incident of note I spotted as well. When Dier scored he, kind of, assaulted Dier.
“He has this thing, he does it to Son quite often. He punches Dier in the side and then slaps him on the head like five times.
“It must be a Romero trait of saying he rates you. It’s passion, that’s all it is.”

Romero signed for Tottenham initially on loan from Atalanta in the summer of 2021.
Despite playing for Spurs in their opening game of the season, there has been no official announcement that he has joined the club permanently.
