Tottenham expert issues ‘surprise’ Harry Kane claim after source’s ‘huge’ reveal
Alan Hutton has claimed Harry Kane will be “desperate” to get back to scoring goals for Tottenham after England’s World Cup exit.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa defender said getting off to a strong start when the season returns will help Kane forget about his penalty miss.
As shown on FIFA’s YouTube channel (12 December), the 29-year-old missed the penalty to put England level with France in the final ten minutes of the quarter-final on Saturday (10 December).
The striker had already netted one spot kick to put the Three Lions on level terms with the French but failed to convert the second and they lost the game 2-1, exiting the World Cup.
Taking to Twitter (11 December), Kane said he was “absolutely gutted” by what happened, adding that it will “take some time to get over”.
On Monday (12 December), sources told this site that Tottenham staff and coaches, including Antonio Conte, have reached out to the England captain with messages of support.
When asked if Conte’s side will be worried about Kane’s mentality when the season restarts, Hutton told Football Insider: “I do not think so.
“He is the captain of England, he is used to high pressure situations and he has taken a lot of penalties in his lifetime.
“I think the biggest thing he will be desperate for is to get back playing and score a goal. I think as soon as he does that he can forget about it a little bit.

“It is a difficult situation but he seems like the kind of guy who can deal with that situation and move forward.
“A lot of people were surprised when he took the second penalty but I was not. When he does hit penalties he normally scores them so I do not think it would affect him too much.“
