Tottenham expert: Joe Rodon unlikely to travel to South Korea after £12.9m deal agreed

Tottenham defender Joe Rodon may not travel to South Korea for the club’s pre-season fixtures.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

A Tottenham source told Football Insider on 22 April that Spurs have told Rodon he is free to find a new club this summer.

On 19 June, Wenham tipped the defender to join Nottingham Forest following their promotion to the Premier League.

However, on Monday (4 June), The Athletic reported Nottingham Forest had reached an agreement with Mainz to sign defender Moussa Niakhate for £12.9million.

Wenham is concerned for Rodon’s future.

“I have spoken about Rodon going to Nottingham Forest, he has worked under Steve Cooper before,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I was slightly concerned to see them sign a centre-back, Moussa Niakhate. I wonder where that leaves Rodon.

“I never believed the stories about him going to Roma on loan, I always thought a Premier League club would come in for him.

“I’m a bit concerned. He has come back to Tottenham training but I just wonder if it might be best for his career if he is another one who is left out of the pre-season tour.

“He just isn’t going to get the game time, he will be seventh choice. He needs to move desperately.”

Rodon was keen to move in January amid interest from the likes of Brighton and Newcastle.

He made three Premier League appearances during the 2021-22 season.
