Tottenham are eyeing a move for Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs are tracking the 21-year-old as he is not a regular starter under Jose Mourinho.

It is understood that the north London club could offer Martial an escape route in the summer in search of regular first-team football.

The report details that Mauricio Pochettino will be in the market for a new pacy forward in the summer as he looks to improve his options.

The Daily Mirror previously reported back in 2015 that Spurs held talks with Martial before he completed a £36million move to Old Trafford.

Martial is a versatile attacker that can play as either a winger or a central striker, but has predominantly been used on the left hand side this season.

The France international has managed 23 appearances this season across all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying six assists.

He managed a goal and an assist on Saturday as United cruised to a 2-0 victory over Watford in the Premier League.

However, Martial has been left frustrated at time this season as he has been rotated frequently in and out of the starting line-up.

The attacker has completed 90 minutes in just one Premier League match this season and is competing for a spot alongside the likes of Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Football Insider verdict:

Spurs certainly need to bolster their attacking options in the summer as Vincent Janssen has not proved to a strong enough back-up for Harry Kane. They could do with some extra pace to add another dimension to their team and Martial would certainly fit the bill. The 21-year-old has phenomenal potential and has shown on numerous occasions how dangerous he can be to opposition defences. However, it would be unlikely that United would be willing to sell one of their emerging star, especially to a Premier League rival. Martial has failed to cement his position yet this season, but could still play a major role in the club’s future. He would have a huge price tag on his head if United decided to let him leave and Spurs would definitely be held to ransom over the fee.
