'Half asleep', 'Having a mare' – Tottenham fans blast star's 'terrible' display v Southampton
Tottenham fans took to social media to blast the performance of defensive star Davinson Sanchez during the club’s 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday.
The Columbian international suffered the embarrassment of netting an own goal to give the Saints the lead, his attempted block from a Ryan Bertrand cross deflecting off his boot and past Michel Vorm in the Spurs net.
Harry Kane spared his blushes just three minutes later, heading home from a Ben Davies corner to score his 99th Premier League goal and secure a point for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
However it was the shaky performance of Sanchez, a regular in the heart of defence this season, which had the Tottenham faithful up in arms, with many criticising the right sided pairing of him and Serge Aurier as an issue at the back.
Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:
Sanchez, who arrived at the north London club in a record-breaking deal from Dutch giants Ajax, has made 25 appearances this season, including all of their Champions League matches and all but four of their Premier League outings, missing three due to a red card picked up against Watford in December.
The draw leaves Spurs sitting fifth in the top flight table, two points behind fourth placed Liverpool who now have a game in hand over the Lilywhites.
