Tottenham fans fume as deal eyed for double Premier League winner: ‘What’s the point?’
Tottenham have got their eyes on a shock deal that could provide them with a third new addition of the January transfer window.
Conor Gallagher and young defender Souza have already joined the ranks in North London, as the Lilywhites try to salvage their Premier League campaign in the second half of the season.
Thomas Frank remains under huge pressure at Tottenham despite the victory over Borussia Dortmund in midweek, but that hasn’t prevented the board from sanctioning transfer pursuits to try to strengthen the squad.
The fans are growing increasingly unhappy with the direction that the club and team are moving in under Frank, and that has been reflected by the reaction to their latest pursuit.

Tottenham fans strongly question Andy Robertson pursuit
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that Celtic have set their sights on Andy Robertson ahead of his contract expiring at Liverpool in the summer.
The Glasgow giants were always likely to face strong competition to secure the left-back’s signature, and Tottenham are now advancing in their bid to sign the veteran in January, as talks progress between the two teams.
Robertson is a two-time Premier League winner and has tasted plenty of success across his eight-and-a-half-year stint with Liverpool, but has only started four Premier League games this term after Milos Kerkez’s arrival.
The Scotland international is only 31 and still has plenty left to give at the top level, but Spurs fans are already questioning their club’s aims following news of their interest.
Several fans took to X to question the previous signing of Souza, with fans asking “what was the point” of bringing him in, just to immediately add another option on the left side of defence.
One supporter also added that it “doesn’t make sense” to move for Robertson after sealing Souza’s arrival, while another labelled it as a “dreadful” move.
- @ThfcCaleb: “He’s nowhere near as good as he used to be, but he’s an experienced winner which we need at the moment, still a weird one though.”
- @mazurskichlop: “Pointless. Better to sign a right-back.”
- @thfcrasmus: “I don’t see a problem in it, Souza is obviously a very raw talent and will probably be loaned next season, good tandem with Udogie for next season.”
Robertson’s World Cup consideration to suit Spurs perfectly
A return to his homeland with Celtic may appeal to Robertson in the long-term, but for now, he desperately needs football in order to prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
The veteran star is set to captain Scotland at their first World Cup since 1998, in what promises to be a momentous campaign for Steve Clarke’s side.
While Robertson’s place in the squad is by no means under threat as a result of his recent lack of gametime, he will be desperate to ensure that he is going into the tournament with enough minutes under his belt.
As one of the leaders of that history-making Scotland team, the defender will be desperate to ensure that he is as ready and as sharp as ever come the opening game of the tournament.
With that in mind, it is surely in his interest to move in the remainder of the January window to ensure that he is playing between now and the end of the season, and that could play perfectly into Tottenham’s hands.
