‘Class act’, ‘Is special’ – Tottenham fans rave over first team backup v Apoel
By Russell Edge
Tottenham fans took to social media to sing the praises of central midfielder Harry Winks after his performance against Apoel Nicosia on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old was named alongside Eric Dier in the centre of the park for the club’s Champions League clash and was one of Spurs’ star performers as they ran out 3-0 victors in Cyprus.
Harry Kane will take the plaudits after his ‘perfect’ hat trick, scored with his left foot, right foot and a header, but Spurs fans made sure to pay Winks the credit they felt he deserved on Twitter.
Here, Football Insider has rounded up a selection of the supporters’ best tweets:
Winks, who has been acting as back up for the club’s first team stars this season, was handed a place in the starting XI with Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Christian Eriksen all ruled out.
It was his sixth appearance of the season, and just his second start, after making his first appearance in the starting XI in six months last week in the League Cup tie against Barnsley.
He had been ruled out with an ankle injury at the end of last season, and spent much of the summer break working to return to full fitness.
