Toby Alderweireld is reportedly in advanced talks to sign a new Tottenham contract – and fans have taken to Twitter to express their delight.

The Daily Mail claim that Spurs are on the verge of tying the 27-year-0ld down to a new five-year deal worth £75,000-a-week contract.

The report states that the London giants are trying to remove an existing £25million release clause in his current contract, which could be triggered by rivals clubs in 2019.

Alderweireld has emerged as one of the outstanding Premier League defenders in the last two seasons following his transfer to Tottenham from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2015.

Spurs fans have take the Belgium international to their hearts and are universally over the moon at the prospect of him committing his long-term future to the club.

Alderweireld gave Spurs fans a fright when he was withdrawn from the team in the second half of their 4-0 demolition of Stoke last weekend.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted afterwards that the Belgian had left the pitch as a “precaution” and reports emerged on Tuesday afternoon that he had been given the all-clear to return to training ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Everton.
