Tottenham fans tear into Pochettino after decision v Gent

By Harvey Byrne

Tottenham fans have torn into manager Mauricio Pochettino after he decided to bring off Mousa Dembele against Gent on Thursday evening.

The north London club suffered elimination from the Europa League at the round of 32 after falling to a 3-2 aggregate defeat against Gent.

It was a miserable two legs for the Premier League side and Dele Alli’s red card just before half time didn’t help matters.

However, it appeared to be Pochettino’s decision to take off Dembele for the inexperienced Harry Winks with 15 minutes left that caught most of the fans’ attention.

The Belgian midfielder was brought off with the score at 2-2 on aggregate and Spurs needing a goal, but the 29-year-old was doing what many perceived to be a great job out on the pitch.

A number of supporters questioned Pochettino’s decision to take off Dembele once again, while one simply declared it was game over as soon as he was taken off.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Dembele has played in 25 matches for Tottenham in all competitions this season and has been key to Spurs’ so far successful league campaign.

However, he has completed a full 90 minutes just once of any match since November and it is clear that Pochettino doesn’t think he’s up to playing a whole game.
