Tottenham fans urge Pochettino to sell 23-year-old after display against Gent

Tottenham crashed out of the Europa League on Thursday night with Ben Davies producing a poor display – and fans on Twitter have urged Mauricio Pochettino to sell the defender.

Spurs recorded a 2-2 draw against Gent at Wembley, but that result was not enough for the London club as they were beaten 3-2 over the two legs.

Pochettino opted to field a 3-5-2 formation during the match, with 23-year-old left-back Davies operating as a wing-back.

With the scoreline at 1-1 and the home team down to ten men, Pochettino opted to substitute Davies for attacker Son Heung-Ming just before the hour mark.

Son’s presence changed the game as Pochettino’s side took the lead minutes later through Victor Wanyama before they eventually conceded late on to crash out of Europe.

Fans were not happy with Davies’ display as many feel he is not up to the standard required at the club.

First team left-back Danny Rose is currently out injured and one supporter felt that Davies is a downgrade on the England international.

Furthermore, another believes that Pochettino must look at upgrading a number of players in the team in the summer, including Davies and striker Vincent Janssen.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Davies has played 20 games in all competitions for his team this season, starting 16 of those encounters, including three games in the Champions League.

With Rose injured, Davies could continue his role in the team as they face Stoke in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon at White Hart Lane.

In other Tottenham news, Paul Merson has stated his prediction for the Stoke clash.
