Tottenham idol fumes over ‘harsh’ Richarlison development – ‘we don’t want to see that’
Paul Robinson has called the Football Association’s decision to ban Tottenham forward Richarlison for one match “harsh”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one is adamant there was “no malice” in the 25-year-old’s actions against Chelsea on 2 May.
As revealed by the Daily Mail‘s Sami Mokbel (5 July), Richarlison has been handed a one-match ban for his infamous flare-throwing incident at Goodison Park last season.
The Brazil striker picked up a lit flare and threw it back into the stands when celebrating a goal against Chelsea at Goodison Park.
Richarlison has since joined Tottenham in a £60million deal from the Toffees.
He will miss Antonio Conte’s side’s first game of the season against Southampton as a result of the ban.
When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the news, Robinson said: “I think it is harsh.
“He was just trying to protect his fans by getting the flare off the pitch.
“Last year, we saw flares, pitch invasions and clubs get hit with fines when it happens. We don’t want to see that side of the game.

“There was no malice in Richarlison’s actions. I think he was just trying to get it off the pitch quickly.
“It is difficult for players. I don’t think there was any intent. He just wanted to get the game going again because it was an important one.”
