Tottenham idol reveals Bryan Gil ‘worry’ as Antonio Conte stance revealed

Paul Robinson has suggested Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has U-turned on Bryan Gil.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one was “concerned” and “worried” about the 21-year-old’s future prior to this season.

Gil has appeared as a substitute in Tottenham’s last two fixtures – a Premier League win over Bournemouth and a Champions League draw with Sporting Lisbon.

As quoted by Football.London (28 October), Conte is “sure” the winger has a future in north London.

Conte heaped praise on Gil’s understanding of the game and “desire to become an important player” for Spurs.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Gil’s form and future, Robinson said: “I was concerned for him and I was worried where his future was.

“Conte did not play him to start with. There was a lot of questions over whether he was a Conte kind of player. I think there was concern about his size and his stature. Is he good enough defensively?

“He still has a lot to offer though. Conte is giving him an opportunity off the bench and I think he can grow into that role. In recent weeks he has come in the managers reckoning can only be a good sign.”

Gil spent the second half of the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Valencia.

He made 17 appearances for the La Liga side.
