Tottenham jet out on mission for £35m-rated international, Daniel Levy suffers blow – report

Tottenham scouts have jetted out on a mission to keep close tabs on Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah as they plan for life without Toby Alderweireld, according to a report.

The Mirror claims that Tah, 22, is being lined up as a potential successor to the Spurs defender, who may be sold in the summer after failing to sign a new deal in North London.

It is understood that Spurs have been present at multiple of Tah’s matches in the Bundesliga, in which he has made 22 appearances this season for Leverkusen.

The report says that the three-times Germany international is valued at £35million by his club and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has suffered a blow that the centre-back will not be available for any cheaper.

Leverkusen are said to have just splashed £18million on Greek sensation Panagiotis Retsos so will want to gain back some of that money spent.

Football Insider verdict

Tah is a very good centre-back who is very comfortable on the ball, much like Alderweireld. Mauricio Pochettino has a massive task in replacing the ex-Atletico and Southampton star in the summer should he leave and Tah would be a good signing. £35million is a lot of money but for that Spurs would be getting a Germany international with bags of experience in the Bundesliga at a top club like Leverkusen. He should also fit in well with Pochettino’s philosophy. Ideally, Spurs should give into Alderweireld’s demands and make him stay. But Levy’s hardball approach seems to be working against him as the Belgian’s exit is seeming more and more inevitable by the week.
