Tottenham jet out for talks with CL striker, scored 32 goals last season – reliable journalist
By Danny Wright
Tottenham have held two rounds of talks with Celtic striker Moussa Dembele, according to a reliable journalist.
French Yahoo Sport journalist Manu Lonjon claimed on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday evening that the leaders of Spurs met with Dembele, 21, in London last week before jetting out to Paris for talks earlier this week.
Sky Sports correspondent Kaveh Solhekol claimed on his personal Twitter account in July that French side Marseille had been in talks about signing Dembele and that he would cost them £20million after his impressive debut season in Scotland.
The France Under-21 international was snapped up by Brendan Rodgers from Fulham last summer and he wasted no time in getting used to playing north of the border as he scored a stunning 32 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions.
Injuries have since scuppered Dembele from playing regular for the treble-winning Hoops and so far this season he has featured in just two of their first 11 fixtures of the campaign.
He is part of a Celtic squad that has now qualified for the Champions League group stages, where his side will come up against Bayern Munich, Paris St. Germain and Anderlecht.
Football Insider Verdict
Dembele would be a brilliant addition for Tottenham, but they would have to be wary about his recent injury problems. It may be that Rodgers is just protecting the striker from the speculation that has surrounded his Celtic Park career and he has therefore left him out of his side, however his hamstring problems started last season and there’s a chance he won’t be fit and ready to play for Spurs. Either way, Mauricio Pochettino needs a new striker. Harry Kane won’t lose his starting spot to Dembele but Vincent Janssen is not a decent back-up option. Dembele has proved with Leigh Griffiths that he can cope with competition for the lone striker role.
