Tottenham key player in race for fitness ahead of clash v Swansea after setback – confirmed
Tottenham are sweating over Harry Kane’s fitness ahead of the clash against Swansea on Tuesday, it has been confirmed.
Spurs announced on their official Twitter account on Friday that Kane, 24, is “hopeful” of recovering from an illness in time to feature at the Liberty Stadium in what will be the North London club’s first game of 2018.
Kane’s illness setback could mean that Mauricio Pochettino may start Fernardo Llorente up front, and with a clash against West Ham just two days later, it is likely that the Tottenham boss will rotate his squad.
The England international has been a key player for Spurs this season and has netted back-to-back hat-tricks in the Premier League to beat Alan Shearer’s record tally of goals in a calendar year that was set in 1995.
The striker has scored a brilliant 24 goals in 24 appearances across all competitions already this season, and with Swansea sitting bottom of the Premier League table, the odds would have been on him to continue that scoring spree into 2018.
Spurs have a congested run of fixtures next week but do have a week break going into them.
After playing Swansea and West Ham on Tuesday and Thursday respectively, the North London outfit face AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on the Sunday.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been installed as favourites to sign this Newcastle first-team star.
