Tottenham lambasted after ‘amateur hour’ Clement Lenglet blunder – expert

Tottenham have been branded “amateur” after failing to take Clement Lenglet on their pre-season tour of South Korea.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Lenglet, 27, joined Tottenham on loan from Barcelona on 8 July but he has not travelled to South Korea for the first part of the club’s pre-season plans.

Wenham can’t understand why the club haven’t flown the defender out to Asia to ink up with the squad.

“I’m going to have a slight dig at the club over Clement Lenglet,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Now, I have been told Lenglet was left behind due to visa issues. I’m really struggling with that.

“They announced him on the Friday, just apply for the Visa anyway. You know you are in talks with the player.

“How much does it cost the club to apply for a visa? £200? £250? If it doesn’t happen, that’s it, the visa doesn’t come through.

“Just pay the money because he needs to be integrated into the squad. He had a great chance to get to know the players in this relaxed environment.

“It’s a bit amateur hour by the club. Would this happen at Bayern Munich, would this happen at Chelsea? We are doing everything else right.

“I feel a bit sorry for Lenglet, he has been left in London with the outcasts, the lot we are trying to push out of the door.

“I wanted him on the tour. I don’t understand why he couldn’t fly out there anyway. He needs a work permit to play, so why hasn’t he travelled over just to meet the squad?”

Lenglet made 27 appearances for Barca during the 2021-22 season.

He has made 160 total appearances for the club.
