Tottenham make £3.4m offer for 22-year-old – report
By Harvey Byrne
Tottenham have made an offer of £3.4million to Espanyol for young goalkeeper Pau Lopez, according to a report.
The Guardian has claimed that Spurs have offered an initial £1.7million for the 22-year-old, which will include another £1.7million in add-ons.
It is also detailed that the proposal includes a clause that would guarantee the La Liga side a cut of any future sale and Tottenham are confident their offer will be accepted.
Earlier in the week the International Business Times claimed that the north London club would need to double their £2million offer for the young shot-stopper.
Now, it would seem that the Premier League club are looking to negotiate a deal that suits both sides with add-ons included if requirements are met.
Lopez joined Tottenham on loan from Espanyol for the season last summer and despite failing to make a single first team appearance for the club Spurs are now keen to sign him permanently.
The youngster is going into the final year of his contract at the Spanish club where he has previously played 48 times for the senior team, conceding 77 times while keeping 10 clean sheets.
Tottenham are also already secure in the goalkeeping spots with both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in the squad, but Mauricio Pochettino may now be casting his eye to the future.
Football Insider verdict:
There is little known of what Lopez is capable of given that all of his appearances for Tottenham came in the Under-23s. However, Pochettino has clearly had a good look at him in training and his judgement cannot be argued with. Additionally, £3.4million is little to nothing to a Premier League club and Spurs will not even have to pay that full amount if Lopez struggles in north London. Therefore, this deal will suit all parties and while Tottenham fans will be hoping Lopez can become a success at the club it would not prove too costly if he in fact flops.
