Tottenham may now accept Matt Doherty bid after source’s reveal – pundit
Tottenham will let Matt Doherty or Emerson Royal leave this summer if they complete a deal for Djed Spence, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Middlesbrough and Leeds United forward claimed Antonio Conte will be keen to recruit a new right wing-back for the 2022-23 campaign.
A recruitment source told Football Insider last week (29 June) that Spurs and Middlesbrough are just £1million apart in their valuations of Spence.

This site reported the same day that Atletico Madrid had submitted a bid for Emerson and Tottenham are willing to let him go if they can secure a fee of at least £20million.
“It was an indifferent season [for Emerson],” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“That was the one area where Conte really struggled to find the right balance. You’ve got Doherty there and you’ve got Royal there.
“At times they showed up and showed their qualities, but there weren’t enough times. Conte has had enough time to assess that.
“If Spence does come in then there’s going to be some movement in that area, you don’t need three right-backs so something’s got to give.
“With the time that Conte has had there, he’s made up his mind up and if an offer comes in that is good enough then he’ll allow one of them to leave.”

Doherty, 30, has two years left to run on his Tottenham contract.
Emerson, 23, is under contract until the summer of 2026 after only moving to the club from Barcelona last summer (2021).
