Tottenham news: Campbell fumes as Son Heung-min controversy analysed – ‘he was rattled’

Kevin Campbell has been left fuming by the two controversial decisions in Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham last Thursday.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the first-half penalty “was soft” at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs won an early penalty in the North London derby after Cedric Soares barged Son Heung-min inside the 18-yard box.

Harry Kane converted the penalty in a moment which gave great momentum to the home side.

Son was involved in another major incident in the game when Rob Holding knocked him to the ground just after the half hour mark.

Referee Paul Tierney brandished Holding his second yellow in seven minutes to ultimately end Arsenal’s hopes of staging a comeback.

Campbell slammed the Gunners centre-half for his naive decision-making prior to the red card.

“The penalty was soft,” he told Football Insider. “We have seen things go on in the box a lot worse than that and not even be given as a penalty.

“In regards to Holding, he has to be smarter.

“I understand that he wants to get tight to Son but you cannot check him off the ball when you’re on a yellow card. Fair enough put you body there but you do not move towards him.

“Holding left the referee no choice. He could not wait to send him off.

“Holding has to be a lot smart than that. Son had him rattled and at this level, with so much at stake, Holding lost his head.”
