Arsenal slammed by Campbell as Nuno Tavares incident analysed - 'that should never happen'
Kevin Campbell has refused to point the finger at Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares for Newcastle United’s opening goal on Monday night.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said “a foul throw should never happen at professional level” but insisted “you cannot blame that” for the goal.
Tavares committed a foul throw in the build-up to Newcastle’s opener at St. James’ Park – an own-goal from Ben White.
The left-back was withdrawn by Gunners manager Mikel Arteta seven minutes later.
Eddie Howe’s side went on to win 2-0 and all but end Arsenal’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the build-up to Newcastle’s first goal, Campbell said: “A foul throw should never happen at professional level.

“It got pulled up though.
“That is not the reason that we conceded the goal. It is a throw-in on the other side of the pitch. You cannot blame that. It is a throw-in. The team has to deal with it, it is as simple as that.
“Listen, there is no excuses for that performances. Arsenal have not been good enough when it really mattered. They have not been good enough.
“We can assess who should have done what when but the bottom line is Newcastle played them off the pitch. There is no other way to say it. Arsenal got battered.”
