Tottenham news: Expert wowed by what he’s seen from ‘remarkable’ Matt Doherty amid ‘Maradona’ claim

Matt Doherty has pulled off a “remarkable” turnaround at Tottenham after many fans wanted him sold in January.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Doherty, 29, registered two assists as Tottenham beat Everton 5-0 on Monday (7 March).

This came after a goal and an assist in his side’s previous league game against Leeds United.

Wenham claims his outing against the Toffees was his best performance for the club.

“Someone edited his head on Maradona’s body on Twitter, I saw that going around,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was possibly a better performance than the one he gave against Leeds, it was probably his best performance for Tottenham.

“He created a great chance for Son to go one on one and played another first-time ball through for Kane to go one on one and he scored.

“His second assist was really good as well, that’s exactly what we want from our full-backs.

“If Conte is going to persist with this formation you have to have full-backs that deliver.

“Fair play to Matt Doherty, a lot of fans wanted him gone in January.

“I remember Football Insider reporting Wolves wanted to bring him back.

“He has done remarkably well to turn that situation around so fair play to him.”

On 4 January, this site revealed Wolves had bid for their former wing-back.

Doherty has now registered one goal and four assists in 16 appearances under Antonio Conte’s leadership.
