Tottenham news: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could seal ‘seamless’ move to AS Roma after source update – pundit

Paul Robinson has poured cold water on the idea of Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg leaving for AS Roma this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one is adamant the 26-year-old will choose to remain in north London if he is part of Antonio Conte’s plans.

A recruitment source told this site (21 February) that AS Roma plan to re-ignite their pursuit of Hojbjerg in the summer so long as Jose Mourinho is still the club’s manager.

The Italian giants targeted the Denmark international last summer, as first revealed by Football Insider in May 2021.

Hojbjerg‘s contract with Spurs runs until the summer of 2025.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the centre-midfielder’s future, Robinson said: “Mourinho is a manager that he likes.

“He responded to Mourinho’s methods because he was phenomenal for that 18 months. If Conte made Hojbjerg surplus to requirements I could see a move to Roma being seamless.

“But if he is playing week in, week out at Spurs I think he would want to stay and be part of something special under Conte. At the moment, I cannot see him going anywhere.

“The Man City game proved that there is a relationship that can be built upon between Hojbjerg and [Rodrigo] Bentancur.”

Hojbjerg starred alongside Bentancur against Manchester City last Saturday.

However, the midfielder struggled to influence the game at Turf Moor on Wednesday night as Spurs slipped to a 1-0 defeat.
